Check the PHP actually serving the site. Start with the domain’s hosting settings and, for WordPress, compare Tools → Site Health → Info → Server where available.
Inspect the selected domain
Open PHP settings for the exact domain in your hosting control panel. Account defaults may differ from a site-specific setting. Record the value before changing anything.
If only a branch such as 8.3 is displayed, ask the supplier for package and patch details. Reading a setting does not require switching it.
Compare WordPress information
An administrator can inspect server information in Site Health. Available fields depend on permissions, WordPress version and hosting. Review each site separately.
If you cannot access the dashboard, locate the hosting contract or maintenance contact rather than repeatedly attempting credentials.
Distinguish CLI and web runtimes
The php -v command describes the binary it launches. The web server can use a different PHP binary, configuration or service. Ask the administrator to map the result to web traffic.
Prefer existing administrative tools over a publicly exposed phpinfo() file. Diagnostic files can reveal configuration details and should not be left accessible.
Questions and answers
Is a hidden version an error?
Not necessarily. Many sites deliberately do not disclose it. Use the hosting panel or supplier instead.
Is a branch number sufficient?
A branch alone may not establish security patch status. Obtain package details or a vendor confirmation.
